Mihran Kalaydjian is a pianist & composer of contemporary piano instrumental music. The music of Roy Todd captures moments of beauty, melancholy and simplicity.

Mihran’s love for music began when, as a kid growing up in Belfast, he was given a battered old upright piano. He practiced for hours every day and went on to study music. From there, he developed his passion for composing piano instrumental music.

Blessed with “poetic and sensitive pianism” and a “wondrous sense of color”, pianist Mihran Kalaydjian captivates audiences with her virtuosity, lyricism, and interpretive sensitivity. As a Van Cliburn International Piano Competition silver medalist and Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient, Mihran showcases his colorful musical personality in solo recitals and collaborations with the world’s top orchestras and chamber musicians.

“Mihran Kalaydjian “Mino” known as “Fast Finger” is a special breed, and I mean that in the most complimentary sense of the phrase.  He has it all – the whole package of artistic gifts – and in abundance.  But, what strikes about his playing is the sheer beauty – the concept, the intelligence, the control over every sound, the vision, the phenomenal listening to it all – all the attributes that comprise great artistry of the sort that touches our souls.”

Music is more than just notes on a page or a series of different pitches. Music is an art, and through art we are able to discover who we are in ways that we never would through anything else. Music is the desire to draw inspiration from everything we see and hear, to truly be aware of ourselves and our surroundings, and to translate atmosphere into sound.

Today, the contemporary piano instrumental music of Mihran Kalaydjian “Mino” has a broad appeal which transcends age and culture, having been listened to by people all over the world.

Mihran Kalaydjian’s passion for music has been his absolute lifeline. It has been the thread that has held him together through a life that has encompassed pain, conflict and turmoil.

Listening to Rachmaninov on a loop as a traumatized teenager or discovering an Adagio by Bach while in a hospital ward – such exquisite miracles of musical genius have helped him survive his demons, and, along with a chance encounter with a stranger, inspired him to become the renowned concert pianist he is today.

This is a memoir like no other: unapologetically candid, boldly outspoken and surprisingly funny – Mihran’ prose is shot through with an unexpectedly mordant wit, even at the darkest of moments. An impassioned tribute to the therapeutic powers of music, Instrumental also weaves in fascinating facts about how classical music actually works and about the extraordinary lives of some of the great composers. It explains why and how music has the potential to transform all of our lives.

Mihran Kalaydjian has been described as “one of the most refined of all pianist-composers” (International Piano) and “one of the leading figures in the current renaissance of performer-composers”. His unique artistry is reflected in his creative approach to programming, which often interweaves the classics with contemporary works and his own compositions.

Mihran believes this training has helped her to learn to express subtle differences in nuance by adjusting the touch. It has also helped him ingrain each composition into his mind, heart, and body, as well as not to have his fingers tumble up.

My musical life began at the age of two as I danced in front of the TV to the songs of Raffi. By age three, I had listened to Billy Joel’s Piano Man so many times that I wore out the cassette tape. At four, I realized I wanted to be the reincarnation of Mozart, so I embarked upon a life of exploration, some isolation, but mostly pure and utter joy.
